Escape from Troy

Some time ago, we started thinking about a documentary about a wonderful artist – Petr Efimovich Zverkhovsky. While working on the script, we realized that the whole narrative is woven from the plots already contained in the artist’s paintings.

Petr Zverkhovsky’s artistry is complex and multifaceted – both in genres and in plots. However, some series of his works contain “full-size worlds”, each with its own set of plots and characters. One of these series is the ancient world. It would be correct to say here “the ancient world of Petr Zverkhovsky”. This world is his personal antiquity, intersecting with historical antiquity only at certain points. This gave us the name of our project and an understanding of what kind of story we want to tell.

After the independent Berlin studio GoodRay Production and several animators joined the project, Zverkhovsky’s paintings began to come to life, talking to each other, talking to their creator and to the audience.

We plan to present our film next year.

The premiere screening took place on May 8, 2018 at the Cannes Film Festival, then the film was presented to the public at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, at the MIPCOM media Fair, at the independent film festivals in Rome (Roma Cinema DOK), Vienna (VIFF), Dalmatia and Barcelona. At the last festival, our film won the Grand Prix.
