About the artist

Petr Efimovich Zverkhovsky was born on September 8, 1942 in the village of Izabelovka (Zhabelevka), Vinnitsa region in Western Ukraine, into a peasant family.

In 1961, Petr Zverkhovsky entered the art and graphic faculty of the Krasnodar Pedagogical Institute, since 1962 he studied at the Kiev State Art Institute (department of easel painting), and after graduating in 1967 he entered the Leningrad Mukhina Higher Art and Industrial School to the department of monumental painting.

In 1973, at the invitation of the regional branch of the Union of Artists, Peter Zverkhovsky arrived in Volgograd and began work as a muralist. In the 70s and 80s, Petr Zverkhovsky created a large number of paintings and graphics that did not find understanding among officials. Even the easel works, created by the artist specifically for the 60th anniversary of the October Revolution, “The First Decrees of Soviet Power” – “Decree on Land” and “Decree on Peace” were indignantly rejected by the exhibition committee. Petr Zverkhovsky was accused of promoting “formalism” under the guise of a “Soviet” theme. Until the beginning of the 90s, the works of Peter Zverkhovsky were not exhibited.

After 1991, the situation has changed rapidly. Since 1992, Petr Zverkhovsky’s works have been presented at more than 60 exhibitions in Russia, Germany, USA, Spain, Italy and Ukraine. From the beginning of the 2000s until his death, the artist was supported by the Seven Winds Charitable Art Foundation.
